  • Product Info

    The essential oil is extracted from the flowering top of the plant and the leaves. Its scent is sweet, herbaceous, warm, spicy, of still green fruit.

    Salvia Triloba is also known as Cretan Sage. The reputation of the healing powers of Sage is centuries old, it has been considered a sacred herb since ancient times, a savior and saving herb. Its very name, Salvia, comes from the Latin "to save."

  • Ingredients

    OLEA EUROPEA (extra virgin olive oil) from organic farming, SALVIA TRILOBA (Cretan wild sage, GR) flowers, leaf and stem extract. 

     

    Steam-distilled.

    No solvents, preservatives or additives.

  • Mechanism of Action

    Salvia triloba essential oil has been shown to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiseptic activities, particularly for the mouth and throat area. Useful in gynecological problems.

     

    S. Triloba oil extract was recently shown to possess potent chemopreventive abilities in the DMBA/TPA mouse model of cutaneous carcinogenesis (Science Direct Medical Journal).
    Sage was found to be effective in treating mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study.

     

    Some of the documented benefits of sage in contemporary medicine include assisting with dementia, treating symptoms of diabetes, balancing cholesterol, fighting obesity, managing menopausal symptoms.

    Consult your doctor before using this oil. Do not use directly on or near the eyes. Please do not use essential oils on children without consulting a qualified aromatherapist or doctor. Not indicated for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  • Uses

    Vounó wild sage oil, is a very popular pain reliever when used topically. It alleviates headaches, muscle and joint pain. Used internally, it sharpens the memory and is useful in cases of mental tiredness, exhaustion and depression. It helps in times of emotional upheavals and crises, it brings mental lucidity and strenght.

     

    Sage is used in the treatments of colds, bronchitis, coughs and excessive sweating. Due to its high cineole content, sage is also mucolytic and can be used as a gargle (2 drops in a glass of water, gargle and spit out) to treat sore throat and infectious phlegm. This gargle is useful in case of bad breath. Adding a drop of sage oil to the toothpaste strengthens the gums.

     

     

    For deep sleep and relaxation take two drops in the evening.

     

    In a diffuser, a few drops can be added to purify the space and to invigorate the mind.

  • Historical notes

    The Romans regarded sage quite highly and sacrifices and ceremonies were associated with its harvest. They also believed it stimulated the brain and memory and used it to clean their teeth.

     

    From 742 AD to 814 AD, Charles the Great ran a reputable medical school in Salerno. In this school, sage was one of 100 plants grown on the property. It was said that he appreciated sage most of all and that even today, it is mandatory to be grown at all monasteries. It was known as the “Salvation Plant” originating from the world “salvarem,” which means “cure” or “save.”

     

    Moving forward to the Middle Ages, it was considered a "panacea," a "cure-all," and was cultivated in the gardens of monasteries. The Chinese appreciated the medicinal qualities of sage and still use it for stomach, digestive and nervous system issues. It was considered useful for typhoid fever, liver, kidneys, colds, joint pain, and more.

     

    Even today the Native Americans use it to purify and facilitate communication with the divine powers. It removes negative energy and is associated with wisdom.
